Fish Oil Supplement Side Effects
A fish oil supplement is a good way to make sure you get enough Omega 3 in your diet to maintain good health, but what are the side effects of fish oil? As with anything else, mega dosing can cause harmful fish oil side effects but stying within the guidelines should produce minor, if any, adverse effects. You may find that you experience side effects with one brand of fish oil supplement and not others.
Fish Oil Side Effects
Not all fish oil is created equal and you may find that a lower cost fish oil supplement causes the side effects below due to poor quality ingredients.
Nausea
Diarrhea
Gas
Belching
Try switching to a more expensive brand. If that doesn't work, it may be that your body just can't process the fish oil and you could try cutting the dosage down. Also, take the oil with meals to reduce upset.
Side effects of fish oil taken in large doses could interfere with your bodies ability to clot blood and make you smell fishy!
Aside from fish oil side effects which are minor for the most part, there are some concerns that one should be aware of before taking a fish oil supplement. Since it does thin the blood it may not be wise to take it along with blood thinning drugs or before or after surgery. It is also advised that anyone with diabetes should avoid fish oil unless advised by a doctor. As with any supplement consult your physician before taking to make sure it will be helpful and not harmful!
