Ginseng Herbal Uses
Ginseng benefits have been known for centuries and ginseng herbal uses are studied widely today.
The ginseng herb has been used for over 2000 years as a stimulant and mind enhancer.
There are two type of this herb - American Ginseng grows wild in North America and Asian Ginseng is cultivated in Japan,
Korea and China.
Asian ginseng herbal uses have been most widely studied and the Asian ginseng herb
is thought to be an immune system stimulant. It has 18 active chemicals called ginsenosides which differ
between the American and Asian variety. Among the Asian ginseng benefits are increased alertness, improved
coordination and improved respiratory performance.
Additional ginseng benefits include immune system support, antiviral properties, antioxidants and positive
effects on the reproductive and nervous systems. Among the many ginseng herbal uses are combination with
pineapple to relieve indigestion and as an aid to sleep. Some also believe it to be an aphrodisiac.
The ginseng herb is considered to protect the body from stress, both mental and physical. It is also reputed
to help speed the bodies return to normal after a trauma. Ginseng benefits include increased mental and physical endurance.
New studies are looking at how ginseng herbal uses can prevent heart disease, inhibit cancerous tumor growth for
some cancers and lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
The Asian ginseng herb can be found as a powder or whole root. It can be taken as a tea, a tincture or a pill.
The American form is usually found as a whole or powered root – the American ginseng benefits have not been
studied as widely as the Asian so most Ginseng available is of the Asian variety.
Ginseng side effects are rare but can include stomach upset and menstrual problems. Consult your physician
before taking any herbal supplement.
