Natural Constipation Cures

Natural constipation cures have many benefits for your overall health and well being. The best "cure" is really to prevent constipation from happening in the first place with proper nutrition and exercise. If you eat right you'll hardly ever have to deal with constipation but I have also included some herbal remedies below just in case!

Constipation can signify a serious health problem but for most people it is just a byproduct of bad nutrition. Too much sugar or junk food, not enough fiber and dehydration are common causes. So constipation cures center around eliminating the causes.

Eating Right

Most people would never get constipated if they ate a diet high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. All these foods add bulk and fiber to the diet which help your bowels to move. In addition, the processed and sugary foods we are used to eating have little nutritional value and the body may have trouble processing them.

One of your first steps for natural constipation cures should be to add as much whole fruits and vegetables to your diet as possible. Leave the skins on as much as possible. Although juices are good for you, juicing strips out all of the fiber so juice has no value in treating constipation. Switch from white bread to whole wheat. Add some legumes to your diet if possible.

Water and Exercise

The two most simple constipation cures will also go a long way towards your overall health and may help prevent other illness as well. Drinking lots of water will keep your stools from being dry, and dry stools are hard to pass. Exercise can help get things moving. A brisk walk every day will help give your body the signal.

Herbal Constipation Cures

Aloe Vera
This herb that works so good on your outsides can also help your insides too! Aloe and its cousins buckthorn, frangula and senna have natural laxative chemicals and can be very powerful constipation cures It is recommended you take any of these herbs with caution and not for extended periods of time.

Flax
Flax seed is used in may packaged products that treat constipation. You can buy the flaxseeds and crush them yourself. Take one or two tablespoons a day with lots of water. You will need to make sure you get at least 8 glasses of water a day when using flax.

Psyllium
Psyllium is loaded with soluble fiber. In addition to being one of the most popular natural constipation cures, it can also help flush cholesterol from the blood. As with flax, you'll need to take lots of water with psyllium.

Rhubarb
Who knew your favorite pie could be a tasty constipation cure! Rhubarb has laxative properties and is high in fiber. Since the properties that give it it's laxative qualities are similar to those in senna, this can be very powerful so use with caution!
