Weight Loss Through Herbs

Weight loss through herbs alone isn't a good solution but there are many weight loss herbs that can help ease the pain of losing weight. You'll probably still need to eat right and exercise but some herbs can help you along the way.

Weight loss through herbs along with diet and exercise can be an effective way to drop some pounds. Some herbs are used to fill you up and others can be used to speed up your metabolism and others have certain nutrients that aid in the loss of weight.

One much publicized weight loss herb is ephedra. Although the Chinese have used this for centuries, it has only recently become popular as a weight loss herb. It has been found to raise blood pressure and increase heart rate when taken in large doses so it's safety is questionable.

Other commonly found weight loss herbs and foods:

Psyllium
This herb is used with lots of water before each meal to help you feel full. You can buy psyllium in pill form or powder (such as Metamucil).

Cayenne
This red pepper or any hot spice can be effective tools for weight loss through herbs. They work to raise your metabolic rate. Studies have shown that eating a teaspoon of red pepper can raise your rate up to 25% which means that you burn more calories! Try adding some cayenne or hot peppers to your meals and see how you like it. Green tea, ginger and mustard seed are also thought to boost metabolism.

Pineapple
Weight loss through herbs also can include one of my favorite fruits - the pineapple. I'm sure you've heard of the pineapple diet and probably dismissed it as a fad. Although, that particular diet (or any diet where you eat limited foods) isn't easy to follow or well rounded, pineapple can play a part in weight loss. Pineapple contains bromelain,an enzyme that helps digest fats and proteins. Add a bit of pineapple to your meals and you'll also benefit from the vitamins it contains.

Fennel
This weight loss herb can act as an appetite suppressant and is reputed to help flush fat from the intestines.

Alfalfa, Dandelion, Corn Silk, Parsley, Yarrow
These weight loss herbs are thought to have diuretic properties and thus help to flush fat out with the waste. You can drink them as teas or take them in pill form.

Weight loss through herbs is not a magical cure for the overweight. Its going to take some lifestyle changes, healthy eating and exercise as well as herbs. The herbs above can give you a little boost to help you along. As always, consult your doctor before taking any weight loss herbs.
